If you didn’t know yet, Alpacas are fabulous! The alpaca is a cute, soft and gentle South American animal in the family of the camelid that very much resembles a llama but with a smaller stature. The alpacas are divided in 2 families, the Huacaya, which has short, dense hair and the Suri that grows long, silky locks. The alpacas are domesticated and kept in herds that grazed all year round at an altitude of 3,500 m (11,500 ft) to 5,000 m (16,000 ft) above sea level and unlike the lamas and camels, they are not used as beasts of burden but for their hair. Alpacas also make excellent exotic pets! They are intelligent, gentle and very good with children and this adorable exotic animal can live up to 20 years if well cared for. Once a year, the alpaca needs to get a haircut and the hair is used to make all sorts of items like socks, blanket, sweaters, etc… What is left after most of the hair is cut off is sometimes hilarious. Check out the alpacas in the pictures below, to which sompets.com is giving the prize for most fabulous alpaca hair and see for yourself the proof that Alpacas have fabulous hair!
