In the animal world, babies often learn how the behaviors they need to survive via play. For example, kittens pounce on their toy while playing as if jumping on a prey; dogs chase the ball and bring it back to the Alpha (you) to “share” their “kill’, etc. In the wild it’s the same thing, animal parents teach their young how to act by playing with them.
