Foxes are part of the big canine family and like the domesticated dog that we know, they are very intelligent. But unlike the family pet we love, the fox is a solitary, nocturnal animal; It sleeps in dens during the day, and hunts at night. Just like your dog though, the fox is an omnivore which means it eats meat but also fruits and grain, unlike cats who are carnivores. Did you know foxes grow whiskers around their legs? Animal whiskers are in general very sensitive and are acting a little bit like fingers; animals use them to feel or sense things around them. Can your dog climb trees? Well, this dog can! Foxes are known for being good climbers and sometimes you can see them just hanging out on the lower branches. Because the foxes fur is so soft and beautiful, it is hunted, sometimes illegally, to supply the high demand of the fashion industry and if this continues, there is a risk that we might lose some of the most amazing species of foxes… Think about these beautiful creatures next time you are tempted to buy a fur coat… If we could live without hurting animals, shouldn’t we?
