Ear care is important for pets. In my household, Ty in particular is prone to getting waxy buildup in his ears, and he has a history of ear infections. So, I now put ear care on the calendar as a weekly event. I find that, by writing these things in my planner, I don’t forget!
Ear care is also made easier by using Bayer® Expert Care™ Ear Care solution. Bayer Expert Care makes a number of products that are easy to find exclusively at PetSmart. Look for them in the health care aisle. In fact, take a look for them next time you are in the store. You might be surprised at the number of neat items that they make. One of those items is their ear care product.
Corgis have very expressive ears, so I like to keep them healthy and as nice looking as possible.
Bayer ExpertCare Ear Care Rinse is a fresh-scented antiseptic cleansing rinse that contains wax-dissolving and drying agents with aloe vera. It is meant to be used once or twice weekly, or as directed by your veterinarian. Here is the ingredient list:
- Water, Propylene Glycol, Benzyl Alcohol, Salicyclic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Aloe Vera Powder, Dioctyl Sodium Sulfosuccinate, Nonoxynol-12, Glycerine, Lactic Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide.
Using Bayer Expert Care Ear Care Rinse is easy. Simply apply it directly from the bottle into the the ear canal. Use a liberal amount. Then, gently massage around the ear and at the base of the ear to help break up accumulated wax and dirt. Here is a simulation using Eve’s ear as a model.
Next, use a cotton pad or other or absorbent material to clean the solution and dirt from the ear. Do not inset a cotton swab or any pointed applicators. Just as with humans, it is not advisable to place any object into your dog’s ear.
My dogs put up with the process quite well, although they squirmed too much for me to get good photos of the process of wiping out the ear. I find that using this product once per week is sufficient to keep both dog’s ears in quite good shape. See how lovely and clean Eve’s ears look?
You can find Bayer Expert Care items exclusively at PetSmart.

We are constantly cleaning Bentley’s ears and trying to avoid infections. Long droopy ears are cute but here in the south where the humidity is so high, they are a breeding ground for yeast infections.

Mr. N has floppy long ears so I clean his ears every so often. He hasn’t gotten an infection yet (*knocks on wood) but prevention is key right?

I had a spaniel mix who had a lot of ear infections, this would have helped her out a lot.
