The Dachshund and Shih Tzu Mix

My dogs have Dachshund cousins, and I have always been a bit partial to the Dashshund breed. There also are some interesting mixes involving Dachshunds, including the Dachshund and Shih Tzu mix, also known as the Schweenie.

Both Dachshunds and Shih Tzus are known to be highly loyal and protective breeds. A Schweenie will commonly be extrememly attached to the owner, but this can result in instances of separation anxiety. They also can be a bit tempermental. They are not necessarily the best dogs to have with children unless they are well socialized to them from a young age.

The coat is soft is silky. Regular grooming is required to avoid matting. The Sweenie is a cutie and is quite lovable. The dogs are also highly intelligent. But be prepared to do plenty of training to keep that intelligence working and out of trouble!
